The EMH mark I holographic program was created as an emergency supplement to the medical team, with the ability to adapt and
create new medical treatments. The program was meant to run, only as a last resort and only for a maximum of 1,500 hours.
He is programmed with over five million possible treatments and with the information from 2,000 different medical references
as well as the experience of 47 physicians. He also contains more than 50 million gigaquads of computer data and is
equipped with the medical knowledge of more than 3,000 cultures
He was appointed chief medical officer on Voyager when the original physician died during the transport to the Delta
quadrant. Kes volunteered to be his medic and also helped him to improve himself and his personality.
He couldn't turn him self on or off during the first weeks in the Delta Quadrant and most crewmembers saw him as
nothing more than a computer program. He was often last to learn about dangerous situations and he couldn't leave
sickbay until he received his mobile emitter in 2373. Slowly he gained the crew's trust and was soon integrated into the
crew as an equal.
He is interested in improving his subroutines, singing opera and holo photography. He has developed
into a complex individual during the years in the Delta quadrant and he can be quite
talkative. He is a close friend to Seven of Nine with whom he was secretly in love with
for a period of time but he never pursued a romantical relationship. He gives Seven
